**Your Role and Responsibilities**
**Location: Atlanta, GA OR Andover, MA (Greater Boston).** _Please note we are not able to offer relocation assistance._
In this role, you will focus on media relations specific to The Weather Company, part of IBM. The Weather Company includes a strong B2B business across energy, agriculture, media and more, as well as digital properties of two consumer brands: The Weather Channel (weather.com) and Weather Underground (wunderground.com). This role requires curiosity to seek out creative story ideas, strong writing skills to turn those ideas into content, and initiative to get that story told externally.
You will develop communications narratives as well as data-driven plans, that promote IBM leadership across technologies, industries, policy and more. You’ll use a variety of analytics, influencer and social listening tools to target stories and content to reach the right audiences in the right ways.
+ Maintain a pipeline of compelling story ideas; actively identify and build media opportunities.
+ Draft written content including blogs, pitches, press releases, opinion articles and more to secure high-profile media articles.
+ Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters and influencers.
+ Work with, prepare and media train our thought leaders and subject matter experts.
+ Analyze metrics and results to pull insights, report on successes, and find growth areas.
+ Tie the weather story into the larger IBM brand and corporate strategy and story.
+ Partner across communications extended teams (global, analyst relations, employee comms) and with marketing, content and social teams to drive communications on integrated efforts.
+ Be at ease and confident with senior executives and top business, tech and industry journalists.
+ Be the first point of contact for the business unit team, inspiring dedication and trust, and provide daily consultancy on potential issues and opportunities.
**Required Technical and Professional Expertise**
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in media relations, PR or similar communications roles.
+ Excellent writing, storytelling and communications skills and a can-do attitude.
+ Interest in news and current events, with specific interest and experience in the tech industry.
+ Existing connections with top-tier journalists.
**Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise**
+ PR agency or in-house PR experience.
+ Experience with Cision or other database to report on metrics.
