Mastercard is searching for an experienced commercial lawyer to be a member of a highly skilled global team supporting Mastercards product initiatives in Asia Pacific with a focus on its Global Processing division, in particular its Payment Transaction Services (MPTS) business. Mastercard Integrated is an issuing and acquiring platform that provides consolidated card management solution for Prepaid, Credit and Debit cards currently on behalf of customers in Asia Pacific and the Middle East & Africa. This full-time role is based in Pune, India and reports into both the Senior Managing Counsel for the Mastercard Payment Transaction Services business globally and the Senior Managing Counsel for the South Asia region. Role This role requires the provision of high quality advice to the business on a broad range of commercial, contractual and operational matters and other areas to help ensure the build, distribution and operations of the business comply with applicable laws and contractual commitments. Such activities include Structure, draft, and negotiate complex technology service agreements and other agreements. Handle cross-border contractual negotiations with suppliers and financial institutions, and contribute to commercial tender responses. Establish a thorough understanding of the business to operate as a trusted advisor to your business clients on a daily basis with respect to wide-ranging issues, to help set and implement strategy for such teams, take responsibility for projects that benefit the team or department, and manage the day to day matters in coordination with colleagues as appropriate. “Own” relationships with various business teams, to provide leadership including direct support, management and counsel to the business with respect to o Identification and protection of intellectual property and confidential data o Legal and business risk assessment and analysis o Compliance with internal policies and applicable regulation o Management of external advisors within policy and budget o Resolution of customer issues and operational matters o Review and approval of product constructs o Training to sales and product teams. Assist product management teams in the identification and management of legal, regulatory, litigation, scheme and commercial risks. Provide product development and distribution guidance, including documentation, IP, information security, information technology, regulatory, data privacy design, and vendor related requirements. Assist with issues related to privacy law and data protection. Deal with jurisdictional and commercial complexities in-region that impact Mastercard’s business. Accordingly, the nature of the legal function includes a commercial and strategic dimension. Assist across businesses within Processing or otherwise as needed. Assisting and supporting Human Resources, Public Policy and our Regulatory teams on relevant matters. All About You Proven experience working with complex legal transactions at a reputable law firm, including preferably some time working in-house at a multinational company. Strong drafting and negotiations skills with the ability to analyze and manage complex issues and deal structures and to progress them to conclusion. Strong operational and regulatory (including data management) expertise, with a preference for specific experience in payments, including operational compliance, scheme compliance and scheme related third party processor processes. Highly confident and a problem solver to be able to tackle uncertain legal environments and unfamiliar situations with a willingness to take positions and lead the business teams and colleagues to workable solutions. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Must have strong communication skills with clients and colleagues. Must be a team player and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and the company. Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally to support or lead customer and vendor negotiations or meet regulatory/governmental authorities as relevant. Candidates with experience in technology, fintech, processing and/or payments agreements will be at a distinct advantage.
