The team has a wide range of work and focus areas within housing (1) State and central housing policy; (2) Capacity building of public actors engaged in the delivery of affordable housing; (3) Rental housing; (4) Structure and functioning of the housing market, including housing finance; (5) Housing rights and activism; (6) Incrementality and self-built housing; as well as (7) Building, design and material innovation, among others. IIHS is a National Resource Centre with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and works closely with several state governments on capacity building, project implementation and training on housing. The team seeks a Senior Associate who can work on multiple projects across these domains. The role requires moving quickly between research, design, and implementation, and we are particularly interested in associates who seek to work closely with government, communities and actors on live and applied projects with extensive field work even as they research, document and write on housing. The Senior Associate will also be encouraged to begin and further their areas of research, with support for the same. Activities and Tasks Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following Being part of teams on implementation projects, supporting conceptualization, design and delivery; Providing research support to on-going projects, including analytical writing, policy advisory, and project documentation; Extensive field work as required on research or practice projects; Curriculum development and teaching on housing in both short and long-term academic programmes; training and/or assisting in training on relevant modules in IIHS executive education (capacity building) programmes; Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and travelling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed. Structure and Reporting The Senior Associate Housing will report to the Lead Academics & Research at IIHS and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organizations, and students. Person Specification An ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline (planning, housing, architecture, development studies, economics, sociology, design, among others) with a proven research and practice record on aspects of IIHS housing portfolio as described above. They will have at least 5 years of experience on research or practice projects, evidence of capacity to do field work, as well as strong writing capabilities. Applicants must have spoken and written proficiency in English and at least one other modern Indian language, among which Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi are preferred.
