Skill: sociology , economic development , teaching , curriculum development , english , economics; Exp: 5-8 years; Job Description IIHS is seeking a Senior Associate interested in working on issues of urban economic development with a focus on livelihoods, informal work, and social protection. The person will join two projects in their first two years. The first traces the place of home-based workers in global supply chains with manufacturing bases in India. The second looks at the extension of formal work benefits such as maternity leave, income support or other labour protections to informal sector workers. Work within the projects is fieldwork-intensive, employs multiple methodological approaches (economic, spatial and ethnographic) and extensive travel, particularly between Jaipur, Delhi and Bengaluru. The Senior Associate will also be encouraged to begin and further their areas of research, with support for the same. Activities and Tasks Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following Co-ordinating and leading fieldwork on projects related to livelihoods, informality and social protection; Providing research support to on-going projects, including analytical writing, policy advisory, and project documentation; Extensive field work as required on research or practice projects; Curriculum development and teaching on economic development in both short and long-term academic programmes; training and/or assisting in training on relevant modules in IIHS executive education (capacity building) programmes; Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and travelling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed. Structure and Reporting The Senior Associate Economic Development will report to the Lead Academics & Research at IIHS and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/ organizations, and students. Person Specification An ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline (economics, development studies, sociology, and design, among others) with a proven research and practice record on aspects of IIHS housing portfolio as described above. They will have at least 5 years of experience on research or practice projects, evidence of capacity to do field work, as well as strong writing capabilities. Applications must have spoken and written proficiency in Hindi and English. Ideal applicants will be proficient in one other modern Indian language, among which Bengali, Rajasthani, Kannada and Tamil are preferred. This offer is on an exclusive basis, which implies that other professional assignments (whether compensated or not) that bear a potential conflict of interest with IIHS cannot be undertaken.
