The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for fully-funded Post-Doctoral Associate position in the area of Social Psychology. The anticipated appointment is expected to start, preferably, on August 14, 2019, for a period of two years, with a possibility of extension, following performance evaluation.
The position requires involvement in cross-sectional, longitudinal and experimental studies examining the notions of belief formation, self-sacrifice, and violence. Of major interest is the role of motivation, social networks and ideology in violent extremism. The projects will aim to understand why, and under which circumstances, individuals are willing to sacrifice their lives for a cause. Successful candidates are expected to develop productive collaborations with faculty in the topic of: (a) radicalization, (b) deradicalization, and (c) self-regulation.
Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. degree in Social Psychology, or a related discipline. Ph.D. holders with a strong publication record, a background in motivation, violent extremism, or persuasion research, and statistical expertise in structural equation modeling, will be considered a plus.
