Skill: teaching , history , curriculum development , human development , geography , english; Exp: 0-3 years; Job Description The proposed School of Human Development at IIHS will hold the study of urban inequality as one of its core focus areas of research, teaching and practice. We are seeking a person to join our faculty who will study identity-based urban inequalities, with a focus on caste and gender. The candidate is expected to help consolidate and further build a research and practice portfolio on these themes within IIHS. They will also play a key role in shaping curriculum development and teaching in IIHS long-term and short-term teaching programmes. The position seeks a person committed to being part of building a research and practice cluster at IIHS, actively mentoring a young team, and defining strategic priorities for the institution in these thematics. Activities and Tasks Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following Building a research and practice portfolio on the study of identity and inequality in contemporary Indian cities; Joining existing research projects in IIHS on these themes, including the study of identity and inequality in housing, climate change, and sanitation; Curriculum development and teaching on urban identity and inequality in both short and long-term academic programmes; training and/or assisting in training on relevant modules in IIHS executive education (capacity building) programmes; Building and mentoring a team of researchers and practitioners at the proposed School; Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and travelling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed. Structure and Reporting The Consultant/Senior Consultant Social Inequality will report to the Lead Academics & Research, and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organizations, and students. Person Specification An ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (social sciences, Dalit studies, gender studies, women studies, urban planning, geography, development studies, among others) with a proven research and practice record on urban identity and inequality. They will have a strong history of publication. Ideal applicants will have experience in teaching in inter-disciplinary classrooms though this is not a pre-requisite. Applications must have spoken and written proficiency in English and at least one other modern Indian language, among which Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi are preferred. This offer is on an exclusive basis, which implies that other professional assignments (whether compensated or not) that bear a potential conflict of interest with IIHS cannot be undertaken.
