Skill: new product development , caterpillar , manufacturing , new product introduction , process development , documentation , problem solving , lean manufacturing , maintenance; Exp: 0-3 years; Category Buyer II – ( Job Number 18000AKD ) Job Description The position of Supply Collaboration Engineer will be the leader and primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for global/regional initiatives, including filling the functional seat for commercial discussions/negotiations with suppliers, being the recognized expert for his/her assigned portion of the category, supports development and execution of category strategies, and drives performance excellence in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management (QCLDM) through direct leverage with the supply base for the assigned category. Lead Collaborative Product and Process Development teams to interface with Suppliers to ensure early supplier collaboration on design for manufacturability, assembly and costs. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and New product introduction activities . Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost and inventory reductions, and quality improvement; as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment. The Position leads Cost Modelling activities that support the setting of Target Costs and managing product cost to achieve target while optimizing value. Provide expertise for strategic sourcing – qualified supply network, business continuity, supplier risk management capacity & financial, logistics, contract management, supplier commercial negotiations, cost/spend management TCA assurance, supplier on boarding/off boarding, lead/response time optimization and resource management decisions. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE 6 or more years of experience is preferred in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering. The position requires an undergraduate degree from a college or university or equivalent experience. Well-developed interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, and reaching consensus on specific actions. This individual normally possesses category team or product team experience. Functional expertise in managing suppliers and internal customers to achieve desired results. Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership expertise Understanding of 6 Sigma/ Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Caterpillar and our suppliers. Strong business acumen with commercial background with proven records of Cost management, Negotiation skills and Supplier relationship management Finely honed negotiation skills, able to interpret, analyze and negotiate contractual cost elements. Knowledge of regional compliance requirements Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to Lead the cross functional team to a solution that meets multiple objectives and balance performance, quality, velocity, and cost Accountable to identify and set current and future, target costs that are realistic and valid Proactive and ensures the effective management of product cost Provide leadership and is the key communicator for Collaborative Product and Process Development Ensure the development, analysis, and documentation of cost information for new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make versus buy, and other special projects Establish Target Costs and manages product cost to target Provide leadership to ensure cost predictability by timely and accurate forecast of commodity/currency movement in the region BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE 6 or more years of experience is preferred in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering.
