This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of four NEG-Micon NM54/950kW wind turbines at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The wind farm system serves approximately 8,000 military and civilian personnel. The system produces approximately 3% – 5% of the base’s total annual electrical energy consumption.
Duties and responsibilities
+ Optimize wind farm online operation.
+ Install, inspect, troubleshoot and repair wind turbine components.
+ Verify equipment and systems performance.
+ Operate, maintain, repair and manage associated facilities and equipment.
+ Monitor meters, gauges, pumps, motors, valves and filters.
+ Document system performance in a wind farm logbook.
+ Perform routine equipment and safety checks.
+ Adjust operation of equipment and systems to meet wind conditions.
+ Perform tests to assure all wind turbine systems are functioning properly.
+ Perform routine scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs, as required.
+ Maintain spare parts inventory.
+ Document and initiate parts ordering, as needed.
+ Identify necessary tools and equipment necessary to service wind turbines.
+ Maintain support tools and equipment to service wind turbines.
+ Perform necessary housekeeping duties.
+ High School Diploma/GED or above.
+ Technical Wind Power Industry post-high school training/certification is a plus
+ 5 years applicable work experience in the wind power industry.
+ Ability to read manuals, drawings and schematic diagrams.
+ Ability to climb up to 200+ feet through a ladder/platform structure internal to tubular towers.
+ Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.
+ Ability to work in confined or restrictive spaces.
+ Trained in fall protection procedures.
+ Able to train other personnel in fall protection requirements of the tubular towers and Nacelle.
+ Possess a valid driver’s license.
+ Ability to use close range radios for communication.
+ Visual acuity including depth perception, field of vision and ability to distinguish between colors.
+ Mechanical aptitude (Eye/Hand Coordination).
+ Computer literacy.
+ Skills in math, reading and writing in order to read, interpret and work from complex instructions, diagrams and drawings.

+ Self-motivated, energetic and possess a positive attitude.
The wind farm is a 24/7 system. System monitoring, maintenance and adjustment activity are the primary activities. Climbing up and down tubular tower ladder/platform with fall protection system. Extreme high temperature conditions are experienced all year round.
Incumbent is required to be able to handle loads of approximately 75 lbs. Movement up and down 200+ ladder/platform system and in open nacelle spaces. Bending, reaching, climbing ladders are typical examples of required flexibility and agility.
