The Infectious Diseases (ID) Therapeutic Area of Janssen R&D is pioneering new treatment paradigms with assets in late discovery and clinical development. The ID Biomarkers team develops and executes strategies to identify and implement novel biomarkers which seek to improve our understanding of the disease and of treatment efficacy, as well as safety in late discovery and early clinical trials to support clinical proof of relevance of novel treatment modalities. Effectively enable stratification of patient segments according to disease subtypes and medical need.
+ Responsible for leading in the design and execution of biomarker identification and implementation strategies during the stages of discovery and clinical development of novel treatment modalities (preventive or therapeutic) within viral or bacterial respiratory infections.
+ Lead all aspects of biomarker strategy design, drive its implementation to support clinical trials for respiratory infections by working closely with the translational, early development, and clinical development teams.
+ Development of biomarker plans for various projects through partnership and collaboration with stakeholders in respiratory infections project teams in ID biomarkers, discovery, early development, translational medicine and clinical development teams. Effectively communicate biomarker needs in the projects and propose technical-scientific approaches that can address these needs.
+ Identify and validate novel prognostic biomarkers (molecular or digital) from high-dimensional data generated from project data sources. Deliver biomarkers that impact on the progression and the delivery of programs.
+ Drive collaborations with external partners to improve disease insights and develop novel molecular or digital biomarkers for respiratory infectious diseases.
+ Combine disease knowledge on respiratory infections with data analysis and statistical expertise to characterize disease mechanisms, mode of action for therapeutic interventions, and candidate biomarkers. Drive data integration, analysis, and interpretation of high-dimensional data from a variety of platforms including NGS, gene expression platforms, flow cytometry, proteomics, microbiome analyses and digital platforms (multisensors).
+ Collaborate with teams including Computational, Data, and Quantitative Sciences to implement data analysis approaches which will address the biomarker needs for respiratory infections programs.
+ Communicate and report on the progress of the respiratory infections programs to the various partners including senior leadership and external scientific community.
+ Education: PhD or MD with a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in a related scientific discipline.
+ Experience in biomarker research in the field of respiratory infections (viral and/or bacterial) or immunology is preferred.
+ Minimum of 10 years of industry related experience where ‘hands-on’ experience in biomarker research is required.
+ Track record of developing and implementing impactful biomarker plans for discovery and/or clinical development programs is preferred.
+ Demonstrated experience with fit-for-purpose biomarker research platforms (genetic, transcriptomic, proteomics, microbiome analysis, cellular profiling, etc) in human translational studies, preferably in the context of infectious diseases or immunology.
+ Expertise in the development and implementation of clinical studies of validated biomarker assays for the analysis of both peripheral and tissue samples.
+ Knowledgeable in regulatory, legal and operational requirements of sample collection (biobank) and data handling for biomarker analyses in clinical studies.
+ Familiarity in the selection and application of computational methodologies for high-dimensional data analysis in biomarker and microbiome research.
+ Supervisory experience and working in project teams is required.
+ Strong communication skills (oral/written) with a record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences. Ability to clearly articulate scientific and operational concepts of biomarker research across functions, levels, and disciplines.
+ Good planning, prioritization, problem solving, and organizational skills.
+ Able to challenge to the status quo and search for creative solutions that can improve the way of doing things.
